Our Library is free to all. While volunteers handle much of the day to day running there are still many costs involved to keep this community resource open: books and other media, part-time bookkeeper and librarian, rates, IT support, utilities, etc. To date it has been costing approximately £70,000 a year, so donations, large or small, really make a difference.
We generate income by renting out space on days when the Library is closed and by holding fundraising events, such as talks at Cecil Sharp house. However, we still have a shortfall of about £35,000 a year and this difference is made up by annual standing orders. Our aim is also to build up an endowment fund to ensure a long-term and secure future. PHCL has charitable status under the umbrella of Primrose Hill Community Association, registered charity no. 298215, and donations all go into Library ring-fenced accounts.

Gift Aid can be reclaimed on gifts from donors who are taxpayers. The basic rate of 20% tax can be reclaimed on the gross amount of the donations before tax was deducted, so a gift of £100 is worth £125 to the Library. Higher rate taxpayers can reclaim the difference between what they have paid in tax at 40% or 50% rates and the basic rate of 20% on the total gross value of their donation.
