Funny Face is a 1957 American musical romantic comedy film directed by Stanley Donen and written by Leonard Gershe, containing assorted songs by George and Ira Gershwin.

When a fashion magazine mogul and her head photographer Dick Avery (Fred Astaire) scout out a bookstore for their next photoshoot, Dick discovers the unique face of bookseller and amateur philosopher, Jo Stockton (Audrey Hepburn). Soon he’s lured her to Paris to model during the day and discuss philosophy in smoky cafes at night. Modelling Givenchy clothes, Hepburn steals the colour in every scene, and her funny face enchants all, including both Dick and the handsome philosophy master whose theories she adores.

The film is a delightful love affair with Paris, in which both Hepburn and Astaire lay on the charm under the impeccable direction of Stanley Donen, who died earlier this year and was also responsible for the incomparable Singing in the Rain.

Introduced by Henrietta Goodden, fashion designer and former Senior Tutor in the School of Fashion and Textiles at the Royal College of Art
