Marcel Pagnol’s generation-spanning story continues with Jean de Florette’s daughter Manon (Emmanuelle Béart), now grown up into a beautiful and free-spirited young shepherdess on her father’s farm in Provence. But when she finally learns the tragic truth behind her father’s death, Manon plots her revenge on the dim-witted Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil) and the scheming Le Papet (Yves Montand).
Although working as a stand-alone film, viewed as a sequel to Jean de Florette (which we are screening in April) Manon des Sources is an unforgettable experience. Claude Berri’s stunning adaptations of Pagnol’s timeless novels won many international awards and have enchanted audiences all around the globe.
