Saajan (Irrfan Khan), an ill-tempered Mumbai office worker nearing retirement, is delivered the wrong lunch by a dabbawala. To Saajan’s surprise, the food is a vast improvement on his usual meal. Young housewife Ila (Nimrat Kaur) had intended it for her emotionally indifferent husband as an attempt to win back his favour. But when her efforts fail to work, Ila decides to enclose a note in the next meal and Saajan, his taste-buds tickled and his interest piqued, decides to write back . . . So begins Ritesh Batra’s exquisite comedy-romance.
