Gig : Carol Jewel

Carol takes much of her inspiration from singers Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Horne and Norma Winstone. Her repertoire features many of their songs.

She has worked with the inspiring singers and educators, Brigitte Beraha and Emilia Martensson. From her home in Belsize Park
Gardens, she runs a weekly jazz singers’ workshop with Brigitte and some of London’s finest musicians, both pianists and guitarists.

Carol, and her husband, the viola player lan Jewel, were the driving force, for six years, behind the annual Belsize Music Festival, which
included an evening of Jazz with Carol and Brigitte and the Rob Baron and Barry Green trios.This led to the invitation to start “Jazz at the Artigiano “an elegant local Italian restaurant.
In Menorca, where she spends time each year, she has regular gigs with the fine guitarist Pere Arguimbau, and the exciting and innovating pianist Suso Gonzalez.

Carol has made recordings with Chris Eldred, piano and Loz Garrett bass, and most recently with the pianist Matt Robinson with whom
she will be singing in the Primrose Hill library.
